Pain Management Treatments 2005
1/1/2005
Who benefits from pain management services? Some people come to the Pain Management Centers seeking relief from short-term or acute pain, which generally results from an injury or surgery and disappears when the body is healed. Most people who use the services suffer from long -term or chronic pain, which does not always have a clear-cut origin or a visible end. Whatever the source of your pain, you may benefit from the treatment at the Pain Management Centers of The Cleveland Clinic. While previous articles have described the recognition of pain, the treatments can include the following:
Sophisticated Nerve Blocks, local anesthetic injections given near a specific nerve or group of nerves to numb pain.
Spinal drug delivery systems, a computerized pump that delivers local anesthetics and other pain medication continuously into the spine to block pain signals.
Spinal Cord stimulation, a tiny implantable generator that stimulates the spinal cord to treat pain and improve circulation.
TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation), a small external device that delivers electric impulses to nerve endings to stop pain.
Psychological Counseling
Physical and Occupational therapy
Dietary and Nutritional counseling
Acupuncture
